 | Subject: Trying to track down some new darts .... Tue Jan 04, 2011 11:14 pm | |
| I have tried dozens of sets of darts over the years - starting with 20g bullets and currently using 24g parallel darts - but the most annoying thing I have found is that I simply cannot get on with most dart shapes / grips !
A few years ago a local shop had some non-branded type darts - based on the phase one original Phil Taylor darts. I tried them and found them pretty good so I bought a set. They are basically a black/grey "ring-grip" dart but I especially like the dimensions as I cannot throw long bodied darts nor stems. These were "supposed" to be 24g darts and were about 50mm long and only 6mm thick.
I have found them to be very suited to my throw and I now want to get a second set but cannot find them anywhere !
I tried the official Taylor "purist" darts but they tend to be nearly 56m long and slightly thicker bodied - no good. I recently tried a replica set as sold by "Ruthless" but their 24g version felt heavy and much thicker than I am used to. I also tried a similar set made by "McCoy" but again they are thicker and heavier and make a big difference to my throw.
I am starting to think that my own darts are more like 23.5 g as they always feel lighter than any new set I try out - but I am trying to find a new dart which sizes up to my old ones - 50mm x 6mm - 23.5g with a ring grip .....
Does anyone have any ideas - or do I need to have some made .. ? Thanks !

| you may be mistaken about your original darts.
older darts that were a grey almost black were the old copper tungsten darts. the newer 90% darts will be thinner than those darts for the same weight.
my 90% tungsten darts are 50mm long, exactly 6mm in diameter but only 21g.
for a dart that length you will probably be looking at a dart at least 6.4mm dia. |

These darts are only 4 years old and look like they are silver rings (grip) with black only inbetween. I am sure they are nickel tungsten - but I agree with you that it's hard to work out why they do not seem comparable to other sets that appear very similar ? A few people have tried them and commented that they are not 24g - but when I buy a 23g set of darts they always feel a lot lighter - so I can't work out why ? I also had a shop weigh them art 24g but I guess that might mean they could be 23.5g rounded up etc etc ? They were not branded either so can only be 85% tungsten I would have thought ? Maybe it's just that their weight / length / thickness are just right for me but it is really frustrating that I cannot find anything else to match them. Cheers |

Thanks for the response. I now find that any form of front loaded shape feels wrong and truth be told, I really get a much better feel for my grip when the dart is very slim - anything like 7mm thick feels like a big lump to to me and anything over 50mm feels like a javelin. I am attaching a photo of the darts - as I said they were a non-branded Taylor P-1 copy but whilst they look like all the rest - they are actually only 50mm long and around 6mm thick, possibly just under (don't own a micrometer). The dart barrel is hardly any thicker than the shaft ( I use "short" nylon shafts - could never get on with longer shafts ?) Cheers
NB - couldn't load the photo ? system stated loading max "0 MB" ??? any ideas ? |

| sorry when you said the dart was almost black i thoght you meant the whole dart.
my darts are .... Dave Fatums 21g. while they are only 6mm thich they are also slightly thicker than a nylon shaft.
i have also recently got a set of 95% tungsten 23g darts. these are a couple of mm shorter but definately thicker at around 6.3mm.
if you look at the penetrator range of darts [most places stock them] they are 95% tungsten.
a 50mm long dart at 23g should be very close to 6mm. |

| Here is a photo of my current dart set-up as promised ..... Barrels are slim and 50mm long - the ring grip is very good and I want to find a similar barrel at around 23.5g.. ? Has anyone seen a set like these ( as I say they are a copy of Taylors phase ones but these are shorter and slimmer ??? ) I actually saw a nice set on ebay - Shaun Griffiths darts .... Slim and nice shape ... |
