PostSubject: Whats Your Practise Routine at Home   Sun Sep 13, 2009 8:09 pm

Just wondering what Routine every one goes through when they are Practising at home...

Myself i like to loosen up by avin a good old chuck at anything for 10-15 minutes... Then move on to Round The Board, Bob's 27 etc.. Then possibly 301 DIDO, Or go for 10 or 12 games of 501 Straight.. But i do like to then push myself and have a best of 11 against NO1 and play Level 6 at moment..

After that i like to chill out at the end by doing some checkouts random ones picked by me lad normally so plenty of 170's to go for!!!!

15 mins=scoring on 20s mainly
15 mins=19s 18s
15 mins=doubles
15mins=possible outshots from 60 upwards

That is my practise routine and it works for me (sometimes)

MIne starts out like yours:
10-15 min of random throwing/warmup.
Then Round the World.
Bob's 27.
sometimes I move to 100 darts at 20s or another doubles practice game
Then it goes into either 15 legs of N01 on level 8 or Catch 40, a game John Part came up with where you shoot at each out from 61-100 and get points based on the number of darts it took to hit the out. Max of 6 darts though on each out...

I also mix it up by throwing 50 darts at Bulls in there as well.

Nothing really set in stone. It's nice to mix up the practice so it's not the same all the time

I like the 50 Darts at Bull i try and keep a record of how manyt i hit then aim to beat it....

That Catch 40 sound's good so i go from 61 - 100 using 6 darts for each checkout, if i dont get it in 6 darts move on to next c/o Yeah?? and if i do it in 5 darts i get 5 points i presume and the aim is to get the least points ??

At home I take a few warm up throws and then play normal 501 legs and try to finish in less darts than the leg before until I have a consistent game. By marking the score after each throw you are allowing for the time an average thrower would take if you was playing an opponent. I also spend some time on hitting as many bulls and 25s and aim to hit at least a bull or 25 with the 3 darts. I have played darts for so many years that I feel that my throw is now a forced throw rather than a natural throw that it once was but as long as I can get the odd 180 and sub 18 dart leg I am happy. My best leg of darts I have hit in over 30 years of play is an 8 dart 401 and a 13 dart 501 and I have never hit a 170 finish. Keep a note of your best legs and it gives you something to beat or match if you get the 9 dart 501. Darts despite being on tv and internet isnt as popular in the pubs as it was years back as I can remember there being plenty of players most nights of the week and sunday lunch time there would be a full bar of dart players and the pubs were only open from 12 to 2 . I think with darts it better to play a steady consistent game then a few brilliant legs followed by a load of poor legs although a sub 12 dart leg will probably make you feel better .

Here are the rules for catch 40:

Throw your darts at the outs from 61-100
2 darts = 3 points
3 darts = 2 points
4-6 darts = 1 point

exception: 99!
3 darts = 3 points
4-6 darts = 1 point

BUSTS, count as 3 darts
Continue your score after 3 darts if you miss the out. Maximum of 6 darts
After 6 darts, you get a score of 0 (zero) and you move to the next out.

Perfect Score: 120

Ok ok... My routine varies everyday BUT I have always (since as long as I can remember) religiously grab my darts even before I have had a cuppa first thing in the morning, throw at D3 until I get 3 darts in the bed (stretches the muscles) and 2x100 and 3 bulls... I then go about my daily things.
Then when I go out to practice I always start on my finishes from 61 up, if I cant complete the finish I start again (only that finish and then continue). Once I have done that (with my mp3 player going of course) I go REVERSE around the board in doubles and triples as this simulates picking off triple and doubles to go out in a match, miss a segment then I change totally.. this is what I do:
Round the board from 1-bull putting a set of darts in the small segment of each number.. miss with one dart, start all over again.

After that I usually have a rest then I play 13 legs against myself (isnt easy as you tend to not concerntrate enough when no practice partner is around n havent taught the cat to throw darts yet either) but I try to make sure that each legs is under 18 darts because I can remember the words of the great Mr. Taylor "18 darts and less is good across the board, anymore and you need to put more practice in"

So unfortunately no practice partner but that is what I do, I use my social darts (drawn doubles mixed) lets me carry on with that practice as I do what Simon Whitlock once told me when he gets bored in practice. forgets the t20's... practices on the t18's & T19's right throughout the leg. study

This is where N01 comes in very handy http://www.nakka.com/soft/n01/index_eng.html

There are 12 computer levels and the games are pretty good. I like it better than DartPro for 501 games against the computer because you aren't throwing against your recorded games and you don't know what it coming next.

COM Level:
- Lv1 - 60 darts
- Lv2 - 40 darts
- Lv3 - 30 darts
- Lv4 - 28 darts
- Lv5 - 26 darts
- Lv6 - 24 darts
- Lv7 - 22 darts
- Lv8 - 20 darts
- Lv9 - 18 darts
- Lv10 - 16 darts
- Lv11 - 14 darts
- Lv12 - 12 darts

It's a windows only thing, but I have it running in a virtual machine using VirtualBox on my computer and works like a charm. Be sure to download the caller plugin and add the shot WAV files. Makes it a little more realistic. There used to be a setting in there to set the time the computer player took to throw which was nice to work on your timing, esp against slow players, but it looks like it was removed Sad Or it was in the nScore version of the software which has other games.

Thanks fotoman but I cant be bothered (no offense)

I hate stopping and punching in numbers in between legs, rather get on with the practice, got Dartpro on my laptop but wont drag it out into the Garage.. my Whiteboad does just a good a job. An example of how we do "short averages" here in Australia.

180 (3)
21 (6)
140 (9)
100 (12)
60/2d (14)

What we were taught as youngsters, write the amount of darts per throw in a circle and keep going, then on the peg add the number of darts (also in tournaments circle and maximums (unfortunately I couldnt circle the above one) this is just an example.
When we get to the knockout stages of tournaments after the round robin is over, we are all giveb sheets to do short averages for players playing and thats what we do for each leg for the above it would be:
501/14D for the winner & eg: 449/13D for the loser and so on until the match is over. Sheet is then handed to the winning player and he/she has to take it to thier next match an get someone to fill it out, once beaten they take the sheet to the directors desk and the officials tally up everything as it all goes to averages for your State and in the end for Australia.

Apart from the above mentioned practice routine's, I was wondering lads & lass's as I play in a Monday & Thursday pub league and also looking at Super league on a Sunday. How often do you practice ? Every night, two nights or whenever as I tend to only practice one night (2 - 3 Hr's) apart from the nights I have a game.
I have been to a few Tourney's this year and it has wetted my appetite so would like to put a better show on next year and wondered would I benefit with more practice. Your thought's on this would be appreciated !

Cheers

I think anyone who wants to improve could do with more practice.

Remember, practice isn't necessarily playing games, but honing skills in certain areas. Obviously game play is a part of it, but working on the various aspects is in my opinion more crucial. Doubles, triples, singles!, release of the dart, follow through, groupings, etc.

When I was a semi-pro golfer, I would spend 2-3 hours a day 4 days a week at the practice range: putting, wedges, chipping, pitching, punch shots, accuracy drills, cuts, slices, etc, etc. They had a nice little short par 3 course and several times I would just go play that with nothing but a 7-iron and a putter (holes from 80-170 yards). I would go out and play a full round every now when that wasn't a tournament, but grunt practice was the majority of my time.

Luckily a few games of 501 doesn't take that much time and we can work that into practice routines fairly easily.

I try to get to the practice board 2-3 nites a week for 2-3 hours at a time. I only play in 1 league on Wed nites. I'm currently about a 73avg and I've been playing for 3 years. I've seen a 13 dart increase over the past 9 months due to a more focused practice routine. I'm also a nerdy stats guy and record/track/chart my practice Smile Since each of the 7 practice routines that I throw on a weekly basis is in itself a game, I have a score for each and that works into an average and I can plot that on a graph. From the beginning of the year it's a nice upward sloping line.

shoot well,
brian

Thanks Brian, it was just I was wondering as people have said what routines but I was interested to know how often as I tend to believe you can over do on the practice especially if you are working all day.

I understand that. I unfortunately have a little more extra free time right now :\ Still, practicing 2 nites of 2 hours each for a working stiff is a good call, esp if you have other family requirements.

League is starting to wear on me personally, 4+ hours and I get to play 5-7 games :-( And I'm the captain of the team... but until I get my singles or doubles league going where every person will be playing around 24 games a nite, this is what I get.

I like to get at least a Hour a night sometimes 2 hours i tend to concentrate on 501 & 301dido games when playing longer if short practise sessions work on grouping, checkouts etc..

I know my weak area is me Doubles so really need to knuckle down on that soon..#

If i have a Tournement coming up i try and get as much Practise as possible, but with a not allways nagging wife and a demanding 6 year old not allways taht easy...

First I have a few flings at Bull.

Then get a little more serious and play 101 in least number of darts (hopefully no more than 6)

Then really practice my doubles, starting at 1 then straight to opposite 19, then 2 to 12, then 3 to 20 and so on....

I find that trying opposite number really challenging and I dont get too bored.

Then practice my scoring and grouping by throwing at T20.
